08/09/19 – PODIMORE

Not a lot for me today whilst metal detecting at Podimore with the UK Metal Detecting group; a few finds, a topped-up suntan, a split in my trousers, and the realisation that I need to punch an extra hole in my belt to stop my trousers slipping down 😄

It was a strange site, very clean apart from iron signals and bits of lead, almost no green waste (scrap aluminium foil, bottle tops, etc) – but surprisingly no pottery or ceramics shards either… I like finding ceramics 😕

No coins for me today, the first time in a long while though others found some – but my best finds were a small, plain copper-alloy double-oval (spectacle) buckle – hard to date but most commonly used in the 15th – 17th centuries, but they can date from as early as 1350…

My other interesting find was an intact cast copper-alloy horse plume holder, probably 19th century, used to decorate plough/cart horse harnesses on special occasions.

Not a wasted day 🙂 Good weather and good company…
